The Client

Gloucestershire International School is a new school based in the heart of Gloucester and part of the International Village Educations Group.

The school, which opened its doors to students for the very first time in September 2016, offers admission to both boarders and day students, aged from 11 to 16. So the security of the students is of utmost priority to the school. The building is a former college site and has been extensively refurbished to a very high standard and set in its own open grounds.

The challenge….

The International School approached ASGuk, to install an access control system at their site initially to increase the security of the student dormitories, requiring authorised users to present a valid token to gain access. The introduction of video verification for access events was also a requirement, to enable the staff to better manage the movement of students around their residential areas.

The solution….

Daniel Green along with colleagues from the ASGuk design team, introduced the Paxton10 range of products which is an innovative building intelligence solution, providing a sophisticated but easy to use access control solution combined with video management, and a convenient web-based user interface for easy system administration.

As a modern facility, the school were keen to accept the ASGuk recommendations. as they have a strong focus on innovation and leading product development, and are committed to introducing new technology to their customers.

The installation……
With a robust infrastructure already in place, the installation for the new system required no additional cabling, reducing the installation time and disruption caused to the school. With the school’s administration and site management already maintained on a cloud-based system, accessible via a series of Chromebooks, the browser based interface meant that the system setup could be easily incorporated into their existing management system.

As an added benefit, the students have been able to make use of their mobile phones for access purposes, utilising Bluetooth SMART technology to turn a smartphone into a valid access control token thus significantly reducing the likelihood of cards or tokens being shared or misplaced.

The result….

With the increase in security on site, The International School are now planning to expand the system further, and significantly increase the number of surveillance cameras in operation for video verification. ASGuk are also confident that the school will soon benefit from increased building automation and energy efficiency, including management of lighting and heating.
